Reimagining Diapers: Woosh's Give-back Approach

Belgian company Woosh has launched a recyclable, give-back diaper program, partnering with daycare centers across Belgium to create a circular system. These diapers are collected and recycled after use, combining sustainability and convenience in an effort to ultimately eliminate diaper waste.

"At Woosh, we believe in taking responsibility for the entire lifecycle of our products," says CEO Jeff Stubbe. "Our give-back diaper offers a unique solution: we collect and recycle used Woosh diapers at our dedicated hub, managing the entire process from design to logistics and recycling. This allows us to precisely measure and optimize our environmental impact, ensuring a sustainable approach as we work with our partners toward a world without diaper waste."

Woosh has partnered with over 1,000 daycare centers, providing diaper delivery and collection services. Collected diapers are processed at their new state-of-the-art recycling hub in Bruges, Belgium, which can handle thousands of used diapers daily, reducing waste and repurposing diaper materials into valuable new products.

"Recycling our give-back diapers prevents 2,000 tons of diaper waste—equivalent to 200,000 garbage bags—from entering landfills each year," says CTO Alby Roseveare. "This is just the start; we're striving for a future free of diaper waste and working towards that vision daily."

Woosh provides Belgian daycare centers with a convenient service, delivering fresh, unused diapers while simultaneously collecting used ones. These high-quality diapers are designed for optimal recycling, made with carefully selected materials, and are also soft, leak-proof, and free from harmful chemicals and fragrances.

Woosh partnered with Belgian diaper manufacturer Ontex to develop their give-back diaper. "At Ontex, we aim for scalable innovations that are both sustainable and affordable," says Annick De Poorter, Chief Innovation & Sustainability Officer at Ontex. "Our collaboration with Woosh has yielded a diaper that minimizes plastic waste and CO? emissions while maximizing recycling potential, reflecting our commitment to integrating sustainability into all our products."

Founded four years ago with the goal of reducing diaper waste, Woosh offers its diapers to individual customers through home or daycare delivery, in addition to its daycare center program.
