Swedish hygiene and health products leader Essity has officially completed the acquisition of the feminine care business of Edgewell Personal Care in a strategic $340 million deal. The transaction, which closed on February 2, 2026, marks a significant expansion for Essity in the North American hygiene market — the world’s largest segment for menstrual and intimate care products.

Under the agreement, Essity has taken ownership of a portfolio of well-known feminine hygiene brands including Carefree, Stayfree, and o.b. in North America, as well as global rights to the Playtex brand. The deal also includes a manufacturing facility located in Dover, Delaware, which will support Essity’s production and distribution operations going forward.

Essity’s leadership stressed that this acquisition is aligned with its long-term strategy to focus on high-margin categories and key geographies, strengthening its footprint in personal care while leveraging well-established consumer brands. In addition to traditional menstrual care products like liners, pads, and tampons, Essity’s broader product suite already includes a range of other intimate hygiene solutions across global markets.

Edgewell, on its part, will use the proceeds from the sale to streamline its portfolio, focusing resources on its core categories such as shave, sun, skin care, and grooming products. The two companies also entered into a Transition Services Agreement to ensure continuity in accounting, IT, quality assurance, operations, supply chain, and sales support throughout the integration period.
