Stitch bonding (looping) is a method of consolidating fiber webs with knitting elements with or without yarn to interlock the fibers and is commonly used for the production of composite materials and technical textiles. There are a number of different yarns that can be used. Such structures are usually more flexible and less paper-like than heat-bonded or adhesive bonded nonwovens. Stitch bonding is based on the principle of warp knitting but with needles designed to stitch through webs of various thickness.
